Last weekend Julia Jones and I FINALLY got to hang out in High Park here in Toronto! It was a glorious day.

Except for the absolutely foul infestation of those little black caterpillar things literally all in the trees at the food stand.

I wanted to die. Right then and there. I don’t do bugs.

ANYWAY after catching up, we decided to film something short and sweet with my super cool new iPhone 12 Pro Max (totally worth the investment) and we came up with the Canada Goose Wrangler of High Park.

Julia got really close to the geese. I was terrified.

Overall it was a terrifying day for me.

But at least we got this super fun sketch out of it!

This Canada Goose Wrangler makes it her mission to stop angry geese from attacking the innocent visitors to High Park in Toronto every summer! Her secret? Total submission to the alpha goose. Seriously.

Canadian geese are mean. Stay away from angry geese!

So I was doing my usual Saturday afternoon sketch writing, when I remembered a conversation I’d had with the chicks the night before about what you would do, or who you would call in the middle of an apocalypse. How would you prioritize your contact list? Would you call anyone at all?

And THEN. Ohhh boy. And then Justin comes out and says “THE PENTAGON RELEASED VERIFIED FOOTAGE OF UFOs” and I was like “UM. EXSQUEEZE ME?”And then I went down a rabbit hole of the leaked pentagon UFO footage for quite a while… The time is lost to the sands, who the hell knows?

Anyway, my mom is also obsessed with aliens and conspiracy theories, I’ve been watching as much “The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch” as I can get my hands on (if only The History Channel in Canada would kindly bring it back), and this is what happened.

And it is SOOO CUTE.

We recorded it via facetime, because although you can see my green screen keying skills getting slightly better when the UFO shows up in the window, I still don’t know how to do the green screen phone thing. I think it worked out pretty well though!

And of course Justin had to be in it for good measure, because he is just a cool guy.

The Pentagon is investigating real UFO Footage leaked by military officials – but here’s what they don’t want you to know… The alien invasion is going to be SOOOOOO CUTE.

And even though the pentagon is revealing secrets about possible alien life beyond humanity, Emily and her mom keep cool, because IT’S JUST ALIENS. Right?!!

It’s Big Chick Energy’s first Christmas! We’re just li’l chickie poos!

And we wanted to say happy holidays to all of our amazing fans that have been SO supportive of our sketch troupe, in this, the year of the dumpster fire.

We’ve learned many lessons in 2020, we’ve adapted, we’ve made the most of things, and we have absolutely, without a doubt, worn masks in public to protect our community.

And so, with MUCH love and gratitude and cheer, we hope this final sketch of 2020 from Big Chick Energy will give you a laugh, and maybe a deep, lower-bowel-level urge to eat grapes in a meadow.

A few weeks ago, The Chicks were actually able to get together to film some sketches outside! It was a BLAST! And it was so much easier than trying to fricking film virtually. Honestly.

So here’s a roundup of all the sketches we produced that day!

Right up top is my sketch. You can tell because it’s just one massive fart joke. My quads were on FIRE after we finished filming that! Starring the lovely Julia Jones, shot by Sam Sexton, and edited by moi!

Next up we’ve got Jo Anne’s sketch, Landscaping. This character she came up with is so wild, I love it!

I was also obsessed with having my gardening glove on to make it look like I had “business”. You know, as an actor, it’s important to focus on the little details to make these characters come to life.

In reality my Reynaud’s was leeching the blood from my fingers in the cold, crisp fall air, and I actually only had one glove so it was a bit of a necessity to keep putting the glove back on. Not so much to take it off though. YOU KNOW WHAT? I HAVE COLD FINGERS, KAY?

So The Chicks had a bonfire at Ontario Place, and we were having a super intimate bonding moment with Britney, and this woman comes up and starts asking us like 800 questions and REFUSES to go away.

Obviously we had to turn that into a sketch right then and there.

SPANX! IS HERE!!!!!! OMG! After lots and lots and lots of editing and filming and waiting to see if we got into the TO SketchFest Film Fest (we didn’t) we are releasing SPANX!

It all began when Julia asked me one day, “Do you want to write a rap about Spanx?” and I said ““Obviously I do.” And so we did.

We also had a super fun launch campaign where we released new little mini-sketches every day this week leading up to the official premiere! And wouldn’t ya know, I’ve collected them all for ya right down here:

So the other night we had our VERY first live show, and our first Weird Flex Sketch Show, where Julia and I collect various sketch comedy troupes from around Toronto and put on a show!

Alas, Jo Anne wasn’t able to make it to this one, but we had such a fun time rehearsing, writing, and learning how to perform together with Julia!

Up above is my audience participation sketch which we also improvised. We came in with specific characters (ya gotta check out Sam’s weird evil science doctor) and had to solve a problem for our audience member to MAKE! YOUR! LIFE! BETTER! Julia was the host of the show. It was a blast! Also, my brother was there with his girlfriend yay!

Dry January

This was Sam’s sketch, all about how we make these super intense commitments to our bodies in the new year, and how they totally get blown out of proportion. I love it.

Battle Wounds

So this sketch was one of the first that I ever read by Julia way back in writing level 3? I think? Maybe 4. I think it was 4. Anyway, it’s such a hilarious take on periods, it’s really well written and it makes me laugh every time because it’s so gross!

Choosing An Outfit

This is a monologue Sam wrote, and somehow we all ended up being a jazzy beatnik band. The blow-line though, look out!

Chain

Alicia wrote & directed this sketch about a super over-coddled bro dude (Sam) and his parents (me and Julia) that REALLY need to let go and let him fail. He’s a dingus.
